Perhaps: An upper endoscopy is a fiberoptic procedure typically administered by a gastroenterologist. The patient is usually sedated and lying down. The goal of this procedure is to look at the upper GI tract. A better exam to evaluate for laryngeal or pharyngeal cancer is a flexible fiberoptic laryngosocpy. This is performed by an head and neck surgeon. It is a smaller scope passed through the nose.
