If you think..: ...Your child may have hearing loss, ask your pediatrician to set you up for an audiology evaluation (a hearing test). It's not something that should be left, it should be taken care of asap. If there is hearing loss, and he already has tubes, surgery will not likely be the answer. If he has no hearing loss, you can discuss what the problem might be with your pediatrician.

Hearing test: Your child's recurrent ear infections have now been treated. If the child has additional symptoms, and you are concerned about the child's hearing then okay to get in with pediatrician for hearing tests. It is possible that the two are linked. Take care.

Fluid?: A fluid collection in the middle ear can cause some hearing loss. Myringotomy tubes would help with that. Tubes normally extrude themselves over a few months, so they may no longer be there to drain the fluid. Alternately, there may be an unhealed hole in the eardrum which can require a patch. Follow up with your ENT surgeon to see what's going on. You may need to see and audiologist as well.
