A member asked:

Suddenly, really happy after a long period of depression. could this be bipolar?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

It's possible: If "really happy" means staying up for a few nights, spending lots of money, engaging in high risk behaviors, having racing thoughts, and grandiose plans, then, yes. If really happy means relieved that the depression has decreased and now the person can experience some joy in life then maybe not. The details matter here. I would see a psychologist or psychiatrist to explore the answer.
