How are mono and ms related?

5 doctors weighed in across 2 answers

Yes: About 99% of all adults and 60% of children, with multiple sclerosis, have history of an infection with ebstein-barr virus, the causative agent of infectious mononucleosis. The viral markers appear to show up later in secondary ms in follicles appearing over the surface of the brain. Not clear yet how this all interacts in the presentation of ms, but one of many environmental risk factors.
