Ask for referal: If you notice that your recession has progressed and you have not been given significant insight as to why it is occurring it is time to see a specialist. It could be your bite, the thickness of your gums, potential grinding, how you floss or the frequency of your cleaning appointments or many other reasons. Make an appt with a prosthodontist or periodontist right away.

Various reasons: Our bodies are not the same as well as we get older. It's hard to say over the internet without having actually treated you & being able to examine you clinically as to the causes. It's amazing how many people think they see a dentist every 6 months, brush & floss properly & follow all recommendations when in actuality they don't. Or perhaps you have not had the best care over the years.

Changes: Changes occur with age. We can control some, some we can;t. Our resistance changes. Medications can have side effects including dry mouth etc. There are probably other issues that we are not even aware of. Stuff happens.
