Is it possible that brushing your teeth & flossing too vigorously can lead to minor gum recession?

Yes absolutely, brushing and flossing is an art that must be learned so that over a life time you do not progressively harm yourself. Sadly in practice we frequently do not take the time to instill careful home care because the insurance companies do not allow sufficient fees to justify the the time it takes. Hygienists do a tremendous job for those who pay attention, but many need extra attention

A hard bristle brush can wear away tooth enamel and traumatize the gums. A hard contact with brush over these areas, in time will cause recession and vigorously flossing can cut and irritate ones gums. Use a waxed floss and a soft toothbrush.
