A member asked:

Possible cystic lesions on head of pancreas vs dilated distal common dt. if it is gallstone, will i need surgery to get rid of it?

Complicated: You are jumping ahead of known information. Do you know if you even have gallstones? Dilated common bile duct & pancreatic cystic lesion are both very different processes. Need much more detailed information before possible treatments are considered. See a good gastroenterologist, may need ERCP or MRI scan.

Possibly: Cystic abnormalities of the pancreas are not uncommon. Mri imaging characteristics can raise or lower our suspicion of it representing or becoming something more worrisome that would require surgery. If you have gallstones in the common channel between the liver and the intestine, ERCP is necessary to remove the stone from the duct and the standard recommendation is to remove the gallbladder.
