In hernia repair, can the skin of thigh be used instead of artificial mesh?

Good question.: Many years ago, the fascia from lateral thigh (fascia lata) was used for hernia repairs. But they eventually broke down and got resorbed because it was a free graft without any blood supply. It did not stay long enough, and many cases recurred. So we don't use it any more.
