Avoid straining: If you have a small hemorrhoid, avoid straining to have a bowel movement (bm). Straining increases the 'venous pressure' of hemorrhoidal veins and may cause the hemorrhoid to 'grow'. Also avoid constipation: increase fluids, fiber and consider citrucel or metamucil. Also consider an over-the-counter stool softner (colace (docusate sodium) or generic). If any pain you can use prep-h or similiar. Hope u get better!
