Emergency: This is an emergency. At the very least, the endodontist should be able to squeeze you in for a radiograph, health history, and a prescription for antibiotics. It will take him/her all of a minute or two to look at the film and prescribe the medication. If the office refuses, ask your dentist to refer you to another endodontist or give you the prescription himself.

Don't wait very long: If you have a definite, solidly diagnosed abscess, ask your dentist to put you on Clindamycin hcl 500mg. One capsule every eight hours for a week. That will probably solve your problem until you can get a root canal or an extraction, but it will not permanently cure the problem. If you are immunocompromised you need early treatment.

Antibiotic /referral: I would get an antibiotic and ask for another endodontist so you can relief sooner.
