A member asked:

My 18 months son got nipped by neighbor dog, it was vaccinated but dr. says its risky, he had antirabies shot and more in coming days.is it necessary?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Check the dog...: One can call public health dept. And the humane society to see if the dog is truly vaccinated, or to see if the dog is observed at the pound. If the dog is proven to be non-rabid, the shots may not be needed. The average U.S. City should not have rabies, due to the success of pet vaccination programs and animal control programs. Rabies here is carried by raccoons, skunks, foxes, coyotes, and bats.
