A member asked:

At son's 4 mon vaccination, nurse use a plate with 3 syringes inside. she take off needle caps all at once and place them back to the plate, then give shots. the needles may contact the plate contaminated with other patient's blood. how risky it is?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Can talk with doctor: In such a situation, a parent can talk with the doctor by phone to advise the doctor what happened. Having more than one uncapped needle at a time is risky be cause there is a higher chance of a needle touching ANYTHING. That means a needle can accidentally pick up germs from anything it touches. The "nurse" may not realize there is increased risk, which is why the doctor will talk with the nurse.
