Common sense: You are looking to go overseas to have medical procedures completed so you can save money, yet you want your local doctors to accept responsibility for the procedures if problems arise. That is not reasonable. You must assume the risks of being treated this way, and be prepared to pay twice for the procedure(s), or go back overseas. You can't have it both ways. Do it locally.

Some advice: I have yet to personally see a patient who had dentistry overseas come back without problems and have the quality of dentistry here in the us. That does not mean it does not exist, nor everything here in the us is quality either. Buyer beware! and you get what you pay for! are two well known sayings that come to mind. It's your decision.

Brands: There are many different types of implants and if an implant is placed out of the country your local dentist may not have access to restore the implant. Not a good idea unless well researched.

Depends: If a dental implant is put in by someone else because of finances you assume the risk that the implant is placed properly. If it is not then there will be some esthetic compromises which the restorative can not be responsible for.

Would you?: Some issues may be treatable, but the local dentist generally will not take responsibility for what some else did. When I do a procedure i stand behind it. It gives the patient the value they deserve.

Question is unclear: First know who will be making the teeth for the implants. Then decide who will be placing them. They lose usefulness if they cannot be properly restored and retained. Be aware of cheap implant offers -- you may not be getting acceptable grade implants. If you return to the U.S. And have problems, it may be difficult to remedy them if the implant type and system is unfamiliar. Know what you get.

It depends: What is the reason for having dental implants abroad? Cost? Often other countries may use different dental implants systems that are used in the usa. So if a problem arises, then the parts and tools to fix the problem will have to be special ordered and it can be costly? Good luck with the dental implant treatment.

No!: First of all, even in the usa, not all dental professionals have the same skill level and experience at placing and restoring dental implants. Outside the usa, a wide range of systems and standards exist, many of which would be unacceptable here! in addition, your profile states you are on a blood thinner for your heart condition, another red flag for you when considering treatment abroad. Be wise.

Not advised: Patients who seek to have dental implants placed abroad are usually by dentists that may not be well qualified. Should post op problems arise, it may difficult to return to the dentist abroad to resolve PO complications.

More likely.: Due to the litigious nature of the US in general, yes. If you get dental implants done abroad, more practiotioners will opt to refer you out than to take on the burden if the implants were not done by themselves or by a surgeon they trust. Especially if complications arise. Plus, you're from NY state. That's even worse.
