Hereditary: Iron overload or hemochromatosis is usually a hereditary condition. It cannot be caused by eating too much steak unless you have hereditary hemochromatosis. If you are concerned, there is a sensitive and relatively inexpensive screening test for iron overload called the transferrin saturation test. Two positive test results above 60% in men or 50% in women are suggestive of hemochromatosis.

Unlikely : A woman is unlikely to get iron overaload from diet. A male with genetic susceptibility would be at risk from the diet you described. Agree with Dr. A.
