Can my 4 months old baby use erythromycin for cough and what dosage?

Not a cough med: This antibiotic is occasionally used for bacterial infections but it is not a cough medicine. Use in early infancy has been associated with a number of gastrointestinal side effects. I never use it if other meds are available and only after verifying the need for an antibiotic.

Not usually: Most colds and coughs are caused by viruses. Erythromycin is an antibiotic (not a cough medicine), it can only work against certain bacteria, not viruses. Antibiotics should never be given if not prescribed by your child's doctor. Please check with your pedestrian. In the mean time give them plenty of fluids and bed rest.
