Viral (subacute)...: Thyroiditis may be a possibility. It is an inflammation of the thyroid gland which is believed to be due to a viral infection. Symptoms include: 1. Hyperthyroidism (due to thyroid hormone leaking from the gland) 2. Swollen, painful thyroid gland (front of lower neck) 3. Fatigue (tiredness) 4. Fever 5. Muscle and joint pain.
