More than the wound: A gunshot wound is created when a projectile ruptures the skin and deeper tissues. This energy is transmitted to adjacent tissues and organs which are interconnected and interrelated. Loss of blood, loss of organ function, all affect the healing process. Timing can be weeks, months or even years until any real return to "normal" is identified. In short, the severity of any gunshot is the answer.
