Depends: Most wound infections are treated with antibiotics and resolve fairly quickly, a few days, depending on the type of bacteria that is causing the infection, the blood supply to the infected area, and the depth of the infection. If the depth of the infection is through the fascia or into the bone it may take weeks to months to clear.

Infection: Only with appropriate antibiotics and wound care. Control of diabetes and not smoking helps. Generally should be treated under the direction of a surgeon except for small, non-surgical wounds.
