Forever, the swell-: Ing lasts for ever. It doesn't get any bigger but may develop a bursa over it, which can cause some discomfort, if it becomes inflamed. You'll have a lump over the upper end of the shin, about 1 to1-1/2 inches below the knee cap. Generally its not painful.
