Unusual: That condition usually implies an inflammation/ injury to the area where the patellar tendon inserts on the proximal tibial growth plate. In a 20 year old, your growth plates are probably pretty well closed; but you may more likely have a patellar tendinitis which produces similar symptoms and is treated similarly.
