Depends on cause.: But you need a standing pelvis x-ray to make sure the joint is not worn. If not, i will inject the hip, place the patient on nsaids and exercises. But make sure it is hip pain. Hip pain is not in the buttock area but in the groin and can go down the anterio-lateral aspect of the thigh to just above the knee. If not there, it is not hip. My patients more often than not do not have "hip" pain!
