Fruits & sugar: As fruits go, apple is not a terrible one because of the fiber you mention. It may contain glucose, but the high fiber makes it be broken down more slowly (lower glycemic load) than fruits with less fiber. More sugary ones are pineapple, papaya, banana, etc. Less sugary, more high fiber ones include blueberries, raspberries, blackberries and boysenberries -- they have lots of antioxidants too!
