Complex issue...: The neck-tongue syndrome has been attributed to damage to the hypoglossal nerve ( CN XII ) to the C2 spinal roots. The palatoglossus, from the vagus nerve (CN X) also goes to the tongue. The lingual nerve of the mandibular division of the trigeminal nerve (CN V3), goes to the anterior 2/3 of the tongue. It also carries taste fibers of the facial nerve (CN VII), from the anterior 2/3 of the tongue
