I was put on amoxicillin for a tooth abscess. i broke out in hive; stopped taking the med, but still have the bumps. how long until my skin clears?

Call dentist: You should take benedryl and this will help, the hives clear up quickly. The time will depend on how serious your allergic reaction is. Call the dentist that is treating your tooth and let them know what happened. It is still important to treat your infection.

Skin reaction to: Amoxicillin may indicate allergy to the drug & related drugs (penicillin, ampicillin, augmentin...) please be careful in the future w these drugs & tell all of your health care professionals about this suspected allergy. Skin rxn will likely dissipate in a few days. Check w your pcp for suggestions, but u can try topical steroid creams (otc) & oral Benadryl (diphenhydramine) for the skin. Benadryl (diphenhydramine) may cause.

Average 7-14 days: Take oral antihistamine (benadryl (diphenhydramine) OTC) to handle the allergic reaction. If concerned, visit your doctor for treatment.
