Exam is easy: This can usually be determined by physical examination by laying down and lifting your head. The upper muscles are not repaired with a mini tummy tuck if that is what you had. If you are still concerned, you could get a ct scan that will show if the muscles were repaired. For an example see this youtube video: <a href="http://youtu.Be/s5ueivasnyw" rel="nofollow" target="_blank">http://youtu.Be/s5u.

Good communication: Speak with your surgeon about the details of your procedure. If you had a limited or mini tt, then muscle repair is not typically done in the upper abdomen. If you had a standard or extended tt, then muscle repair usually is done there, and as long as the sutures are holding, you should be in good shape. Your surgeon can check this with the physical exam.

Talk to your surgeon: A panniculectomy is a procedure that only removes the abdominal skin without tightening the muscles. If your surgeon did a true tummy tuck (abdominoplasty), s/he almost certainly tightened your abdominal muscles. Speak with your surgeon and ask if this was indeed the case.

Ask.: You should be able to ask your plastic surgeon exactly what was done during your surgery; frankly, this should have been discussed prior to proceeding. If plication of the muscles was not performed, you may have “bulging” of the involved area especially in certain positions.

Tummy TK: Muscle tightening will have a significant inpact in the countour of your abdomen and flanks area. It will flatten you abdomen significantly. A panniculectomy or dermolipectomy on the other hand, will remove excess skin. Seek advise from a board certified plastic surgeon when cosidering this type of procedures.
