Inducing Labor: Never do doctors induce labor early unless the baby or mother is in grave danger. In general waiting till the baby is mature enough to survive easily outside of the womb is best.

Define early: I believe the main organization of obgyns , acog has come out with a strong statement against inductions before 39 weeks. Many newborns have ended up in the special care nurseries with lung problems in the past. Many will consider induction if you are far enough along and your cervix is showing signs that delivery is close.
