Get them: The immunizations in common use today are very safe and effective. With few exceptions, every child should be fully immunized. Discuss carefully with pediatrician or family medicine doctor. I had all of my own children immunized and recommend it for my patients.

Risk/benefit: I assume we are discussing vaccines normally required for kids; those are approved only after is proven that benefits outweigh the risks. Still, side effects and adverse reactions are reported, but rarely severe. This is a very interesting discussion you should have with a pediatrician, who might explain what vaccines are recommended or contraindicated for a particular case.

Numbers show benefit: We have had anti-vaccine groups for the 3+ decades I have practiced and when we disprove one of their issues they dream up another.Facts are in, in the 90's when most moms had their kids vaccinated, we had 2500 US pertussis cases/yr and no deaths. Last year, with the anti-vaccine scare tactics, we had 40,000 US cases and about 40 deaths ,mostly in kids under 1 yr.There were no pertussis vac deaths
