A member asked:

Can a tongue tie correct itself as an infant grows? should it be treated if nursing is working? should it be done very early or it can it wait?

What appears to be a slight tongue tie to us may never produce problems. Interference with breast feeding is one early issue, but by 9 mo that has passed. If the tongue tip can reach over the lower teeth, it should not interfere with speech development. Feeding activity often stretches the frenum over time so this can improve if left alone.Treatment method should be the one the doc is skilled with

Tongue tie, a short mandible alar lingual frenum, does not self correct. Can cause speech as well as swallowing problems. WILL cause aberration in upper jaw width and increase complexity of orthodontic correction. Have procedure done as soon as possible for a myriad non reasons.
