DebatedButDecrConges: Debate exists about whether treating nasal congestion/rhinitis helps decr ear fluid problms. Sometimes i will do this with my patients as a test: topical decongestant (ex: afrin) 2 puffs each nostril 3x/day for 4 days (then stop!). At the same time, for 1-2 weeks, aggressive trial of nasal steroid (ex: flonase) 2 puffs each nostril 3x/day for 1-2 weeks, then nl dose. Spray gently & laterally.
