How do they intubate you with a wisdom tooth removal?

They rarely do: Wisdom teeth can be removed with local anesthesia alone. Adding "sweet air" to the mix will relax you and make it all the more comfortable. Some patients either require or prefer IV sedation. Rarely do dentists need to have to admit a patient to the hospital for general anesthesia and intubation. Have you discussed the options with an oral surgeon yet? Please do.

No: No. Most oral surgeons sedate the patient with IV medications. Only a very few use intubation. The oral surgeon uses the technique which works best in his/her hands. Make sure your procedure is done by a board certified oral surgeon.

The laryngeal mask: The removal of impacted teeth is a serious surgical procedure and Oral and maxillofacial surgeons are extensively trained to appropriately preformed the surgery and anesthesia. The laryngeal mask is increasingly being used in this type of surgery.

IV Sedation: In many instances local anesthetics can be used. For more difficult extractions, IV sedation will put you to sleep. In both cases you will be breathing on your own and will not need intubation. All the best...
