When growth stops: This question is hard to answer because there is no way to know for sure. Os is caused by inflammation and fragmentation of the growth plate where the patella tendon attaches. Since this growth plate closes when we reach bone maturity, the pain should stop; however, if the growth plate has fragmented it may not come together when growth stops leaving painful loose pieces of bone within tendon.

Osgood Schlatter: Osgood-schlatter is a condition involving a portion of the tibial growth plate at the insertion of the patellar tendon. It is associated with tight quadriceps (especially the rectus femoris). There can be a painful fragmentation that occurs at this area. The best treatment is stretching, nsaids and rice. It resolves when the growth plates close (usually around 16 for boys, but it differs).
