Not sure either: I have never heard of a surgery to remove a layer of your ovaries. The ovaries provide important heart healthy protection to the postmenopausal female and most doctors don't remove them unless you have a strong family history of ovarian cancer. Find out more specifics from your doctor to understand what surgery he or she recommended.

Second opinion: While some women go into menopause before the "average" age of 51 years, the issue of a surgery to 'remove a layer of the ovaries' doesn't make sense, i may not have all the information, but unless you have a large, or suspicious-appearing cyst or mass on the ovary, or other indication- menopause alone does not require surgery on the ovaries.
