Many things: Many things can cause the symptoms you describe including viral infections-enteroviruses, measles, german measles etc., bacterial infections with toxin production due to staphylococcus and streptococcus, rocky mountain spotted fever and other rickettsial infections, syphillis as well as drug reactions.
