Orthopaedic surgeon: While most orthopaedic surgeons are comfortable seeing this condition, i would recommend seeing one that has added training in hand surgery as they are very comfortable with both conservative and surgical treatment of cubital tunnel syndrome. Some plastic surgeons also have this training.

Orthopaedic hand doc: Cubital tunnel syndrome involves compression of the ulnar nerve at the elbow. This is one of many peripheral nerve compressive disorders treated by hand surgeons, the most common being cubital tunnel syndrome (cts). Make sure your hand surgeon has a certificate of additional qualification (caq) in hand surgery. Hand surgeons can be general, plastic or aa in my case, an orthopaedic surgeon.

Too often: I believe you mean carpal tunnel syndrome. This is a condition of narrowing and irritation of the median nerve at the wrist (the carpal area) in which the area supplied in the hand gets numb, tingly and rarely has loss of muscle function. There is occasional pain at the tunnel. Treatment is with ice and nsaids. Some may need injected steroids. A few require unroofing of the tunnel by surgery.

Cubital tunnel fix: There is no quick way to cure it; it depend on what's causing it. The problem could be from injury to the elbow, significant degenerative changes (arthritis), repetitive and/or prolonged elbow bending, or prolonged/repetitive pressure. It may also come as a consequence of endocrine problems, like diabetes, or the presence of a cyst or tumor. So, treatment is dependent on the cause.

What is the treatment for cubital tunnel syndrome?

Depends: Early on cubital tunnel syndrome can be treated with activity modifications (avoid excessive elbow flexion and external compression on the medial elbow). Nerve gliding exercises can help in some mild cases as can oral steroids. Ultimately, only surgery can decompress or take the pressure off the nerve.
