Physiologic: This is a dosage which will provide serum and tissue levels sufficient to replace the normal cortisol concentrations without added supplements. It will vary with the degree of adrenal insufficiency and will be regulated by measuring cortisol levelsin the patient.

Every patient will require a different dose. Degree of insufficiency body size physicial activity all play a role. One size does not fit all.

30 mg: It has been generally accepted that 30 mg of Hydrocortisone is a physiologic replacement dose. However, some patients on this dose can develop long term effects of excess steroid hormone. Most endocrinologists try to have patients on a lower daily dosage of 20-25 mg daily, with increased doses during periods of physical stress.
