Autistic: Depends on results of evaluation by her doctor. Here we use risperdal, among others, which has calming effect on youngsters. Please review with her doctor.

Autism and Behavior: There are medicines approved for this, but they must be prescribed by your daughter's doctor or a child psychiatrist. However, medicines do not take the place of aggressive behavioral interventions--which your daughter's therapists should teach to you.

The FDA has now : Approved Risperdal to treat behaviors like aggression, temper tantrums, irritability & self- inflicted injuries in autistic children & adolescents. Abilify (aripiprazole) has also been shown in studies to be beneficial for this purpose and can be used off-label.
