Not common anymore.: Tonsillectomy used to be so common that the family practitioner did it in children in the office, give them ice cream and send them home. Since the 60's, was understood that tonsils are important lymph tissue, that drains uris. Now there needs to be defined indication to do it, such as 3 significant strep infections over 1-2 years. So, an infection disease or ENT expert should be in the decision.
