Tonsillectomy: Intubation is the most common technique for anesthesia for tonsillectomy. The procedure can be done under local anesthetic injections with intravenous sedation or in some cases with a laryngeal mask airway-a variation from actual intubation. The latter two approaches are much more rare with a local tonsillectomy being the rarest. Intubation protects the airway best for this surgery.
