Ankle pain: I'll assume that you are assuming (that the cause of your pain is ligamentous) chronic ankle pain , or any pain for that matter, always has a reason for being there, or what we call an etiology. Yours simply has not been diagnosed. I would suggest an examination by a qualified specialist to determine what is hurting, why its hurting and what is the proper treatment. Good luck.

Chronic ankle: Chronic pain to ankle was caused by an injury that has gotten worse over time, likely due to more fibers of the ligament involved tearing. Need MRI and treatment. Possible cast but if its chronic it often needs surgical repair.
