OCD Treatments: There are two therapeutic approaches to treating obsessive-compulsive disorder. A specific form of cognitive behavioral therapy, where one confronts their anxieties, can provide up to 100% symptom relief. Ocd also responds well to treatment with ssri antidepressants. Fluoxetine, fluvoxamine, sertraline and paroxetine are effective. Combining both treatment options offers best prognosis.

Meds and therapy: Meds (usually antianxiety medications, but not always) combined with therapy with a clinician who specializes on OCD is the best combination to treat OCD, typically.

CBT and medications: This is well studied. Ocd responds best to a combination of an ssri antidepressant such as fluoxetine (prozac) and cognitive-behavioral therapy (cbt). The combination improves the original response rate and, perhaps even more importantly, decreases the likelihood of a second episode.

Yes, that is: Possible. When a person is obsessed with particular thoughts - they aren't attending well to other things that are happening. With obsessive compulsive personality traits - people can lose the bigger picture when focused on small details. Therapy can help with both obsessive compulsive disorder and obsessive compulsive personality disordE.R.

Combination Therapy.: Talking therapy ranks really high. Cognitive behavioral therapy can be quite effective. Psychiatric medications may be needed. Aim for daily exercise, 8 hours of sleep per night ; good nutrition with 5 servings of veggies ; 4 of fruit per day. Try tai chi, yoga, qi gong, progressive muscle relaxation, deep breathing exercises ; meditation. Don't isolate - spend time with friends and stay active.

Is any herbal or homeopathic treatment for obsessive compulsive disorder(ocd)?

Classical homeopathy: Ocd is a difficult disorder to treat, even in conventional medicine. However, there are psychiatrists who are well-trained in classical homeopathy and who can help you. Many people who have not responded to conventional medications or who are very sensitive to them, may respond well to homeopathy. You must be sure your homeopath is familiar with ocd and is experienced in treating this problem.

SSRI: A class of medications known as SSRIs are the first line for this disorder. Examples include Prozac, Paxil (paroxetine) and Zoloft etc. Choosing the right drug within this class should be done based on your medical history and possible side effects during a consultation with a Psychiatrist. There are also other therapies that may be effective in addition to medication.
