Helpful: Mouth rinses may be helpful in treating & preventing gingivitis. Proper brushing and flossing along with routine professional cleanings is the best way to prevent gum problems. Diet is also important. Your own dentist is the best one to ask how best to prevent & treat you as he\she can actually examine you, knows your medical & dental history and can recommend measures for your specific situation.

Yes, but antiseptic : The use of antiseptic listerine is a well documented and studied subject that proves it's use as a valuable tool in conjunction to brushing, flossing and regular dental exams/cleanings in dealing with gum disease! while there is alcohol in it as an ingredient, it is for rinsing and germ killing, but not drinking!

Can be helpful: And will not be hurtful. Remember, however, that mouthwash is not a substitute for physically removing dental plaque (bacteria/food debris) from your teeth. It's an adjunct to the steps you cannot do without, brushing and flossing.
