Are steroid shots that are injected into a bulging disk, neck and lower back, an effective procedure, does it help with the pain. i am really nervous?

Yes: But they're not injected into the disk. Steroids can be injected into the facet joints or into epidural spaces. Epidurals are very safe and effective for sciatica and can also be used to treat spinal stenosis, but less effectively. And yes, they help to reduce pain.
