Not always on x-ray: Ct scanning is best to show the bone detail of the temporomandibular joint and MRI is best at showing whether there is an abnormality of the joint itself (meniscus). An ENT doctor would be the best source of guidance on which would be advised.

Not always: But about 65% of children with jra and symptoms of tmj-temporomandibular joint pain also have x-rays that show jaw changes. It seems to start about age 5-6 years right where you are now. You can talk to your doctor about how to make your jaw feel better. I hope you feel better soon!
