Go to the Expert: Unfortunately, it's hard to answer this question without pictures or an operative report, at the least. No one knows the specifics of your mother's operation better than her surgeon. If your mother is alright with you accompanying her to the surgeon's office, i'm sure all your questions will be answered. If sutures are still in, i'm certain she has a postop visit scheduled soon. Good luck!

Complex issue: This is a complex issue, usually best to be sorted out by her surgeon. You could also ask your surgeon to recommend someone for a second opinion if you want. Surgeons interested in hernia repair can be found on the Americas Hernia Society website. Hope this helps, and best wishes to you and your mother. She'll be alright.
