Before surgery: Diabetes and elevated blood sugars, (>250) increase the risk of surgery and anesthesia. To mitigate, lower overall risk, it is best to increase the diabetic monitoring for 2 to 3 days before your surgery. Arrive for surgery with a Blood sugar below 250, a record of recent blood sugars. We cancel elective surgery if blood sugar is >300. We cancel major surgery if glyco hemoglobin is >9.0. Be well.
