Where u live counts: Coccidiomycosis is endemic (meaning it is found commonly in the environment) in the central valley of california, particularly if you dig up the soil (gardeners, archeologists, etc.).

YES: Depends on geography (exposure to the fungus esp in San Joaquin Valley in CA, southwest AZ, and southern border of TX and NM), genetic background (African or Filipino descent) , and immunity ( immmunosuppressed people with AIDS, transplant, on chemotherapy are more prone to getting it), and exposure to dust (digging a ditch or gardening).
