Can my local primary care doctor treat coccidiomycosis?

Yes: But do you really have the disease? Did they perform the correct test? If you have the disease, they can easily treat. If they are worried, then an infectious disease specialist might be a better option.

Probably: Valley Fever/ Coccidiomycosis often requires no specific treatment. Dx is via serologic tests for coccidioidomycosis or cultures. Sometimes antifungal medications are required. Occassionally there are serious complications. If a provider believes that situation is worsening, a specialist (such as infectious disease) may be consulted.
