Avoid San Joaquin: Valley and other areas of the southwest & northern mexico where the mold, coccidioidomycosis immitis is found. The high frequency of cases in central california led to the name "valley fever". C. Immitis is dormant in dry weather & becomes active in the rainy season. So you can probably visit fresno in the summer. Anyone is susceptible. Half the folks living in endemic areas have been infected.
