Avoid dairy? No.: Drinking milk does not make you produce milk any more than eating hair makes you hairy ( or even eating cartilage makes your cartilage strong). The breast feeding diet should be high in protein ( 1 gram for every lb of mother's weight) and be about 500 calories above prepregnancy diet. Milk and milk products are quite high in protein and calories and are ideal foods for breastfeeding.

Varies with need: Some infants can become irritable if mom consumes significant amounts of milk.These infants have intolerance to cow milk proteins that seem to make it across in the bm. Since cows don't drink milk, mom's don't have to to breast feed, but they will need adequate sources of calcium and other nutrients to make the product. For most mom's this is not an issue.
