One of my kidneys is atrophic so it's really hard to find in a sonogram. can it eventually disappear completely?

On Sono, Yes!: If the kidney continues to involute and become more echogenic (white) it can be indistinguishable from the surrounding renal fat. Essentially disappearing. Would still be visible on ct.
